Ninh Binh and around
In my hotel in Ninh Binh I met Veit (D) and soon we found ourselves on a bike to Bai Dinh, a new and gigantic buddhist pagoda. After that we continued for Tam Coc. This appeared to be easier said than done because we didn't really got it that the back alley actually was the main road. We drove through the villages and the rice paddies and made our way there after all. It turned out to be a wonderful experience: the scenery is beautiful and everywhere children say 'hello' to you... Tam Coc in itself is absolutely beautiful: on a small boat they row you through 3 caves surrounded by karst rocks. After that we cycled by Mua, a small temple on a mountain peak from which you can see Tam Coc through a bird's perspective. We ended the day with the local speciality: goat.
The next day together with Marco and Kerstin (D) I went on a self organised two day trip to Cuc Phuong National Park. We visited the monkeys and turtles in the conservation center and then took our mountain bikes to the park center. Late in the afternoon we did a trekking. At the cave I left Marco & Kerstin and went further into the jungle on my own searching for a 1000-year-old tree. When I came back from the jungle I ran into the place where we were supposed to sleep. I felt a bit as in 'Lost' when Jack & co for the first time enter the village where the others live. We slept in a stilt house accompanied by some mice. The next day we did another quite challenging trekking and visited a cave after which we, after some serious bargaining, drove back to Ninh Binh for a reasonable price.
